A very popular dish in Andaman & Nicobar. In this recipe, we have to marinate the prawns and cook them with onion tomato, and coconut milk. So that this dish is very creamy. You can have it with steamed rice.
Coconut Prawn

Ingredients

  • 2cups coconut milk
  • 15-20 large washed prawns
  • Salt as per taste
  • 1/2tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2tsp red chilli powder
  • 2 1/2tbsps oil
  • 1tsp mustard seeds
  • 2-3 dried red chillies
  • 1 finely chopped onion
  • 2 finely chopped tomatoes
  • 10-15 curry leaves
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • Crushed black peppercorns as per taste
  • 1tbsp tamarind pulp
  • Fried curry leaves

Process of making Coconut Prawn

  • Take prawns in a bowl. Add turmeric powder, red chilli, and salt and mix well. Set aside to marinate for 15 to 30 mins.
  • Heat oil in a Kadai. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add dried red chillies and saute for 4-5 seconds.
  • Add onion and mix well. Cook till it turns translucent. Add tomatoes and mix.
  • Add salt, mix, cover and cook till the tomatoes turn soft and pulpy Add red chilli powder and turmeric powder and mix well.
  •  Add prawns and sauté on high heat for 2-3 minutes. Cover and cook on a medium flame for a minute.
  • Add coconut milk, curry leaves, slit green chillies, crushed black peppercorns and tamarind pulp and Cook for 1-2 minutes.
  • Switch the heat off, garnish with fried curry leaves. Serve hot with steamed rice.
